STATE GOVTS SHOULD INTENSIFY TRAINING OF TEACHERS —NTI

National Teachers Institute (NTI) has called on state governments to complement efforts of the Federal Government in the training and retraining of teachers so as to improve the standard of education in the country.
The Director General of the institute, Dr Aminu Ladan Sharehu stated this in Minna during the capacity building workshop for teachers nationwide under the 2014 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Batch B conducted this year.
According to him, within the last three years, NTI has trained over 700 teachers in the country, while expressing hope to increase its target annually if funds are made available.
Speaking on the workshop, the director general explained that the training would be an intensive and in-house one for a week in which participants would be tested in order to bring positive change to their profession.
He urged the state governments to key into the programme to complement federal government efforts by replicating the same programme in their various states.
Ladan also hinged the delay in holding the workshop, which ought to have held in six geo-political zones last year to lack of funds. Speaking, Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello represented by his deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso assured that the state would collaborate with the institute in the area of training and retraining of teachers to enhance their professionalism.
