By Augustine Akhilomen, Lagos
Former Super Eagles coach, Daniel Amokachi has be appointed the manager of Finland second division club, JS Hercules on a one year deal.
The 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winning player was part of the coaching crew under former Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi that took Nigeria to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where the team crashed out in the round of 16 of the competition after losing 2-0 to France. He has also worked as an assistant coach when the team won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa in 2013.
The Finnish second division side, on their official website on Wednesday, announced the hiring of Amokachi and the other reshuffling in their technical crew.
‘De Bull’ as he’s popularly known during his playing days had short spell with Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, which ended abruptly barely few weeks after the celebrated move.
“Hercules has signed an agreement with former Nigerian national team player and coach Daniel Amokachi,” the club announced on its website.
The Oulu-based football club will have the 43-year-old work with last season’s head coach, Pekka Haaranen; who will step down to the role of assistant coach.
Hercules, who are based in Oulu, Finland, were recently promoted to the Finnish second tier and will hope for more upward swing under their new Nigerian manager, Amokachi.
