A widow battling an aggressive cancer had her house trashed by revellers who gatecrashed her granddaughter's New Year's Eve gathering.

Karen Roberts, 55, let her teenage ganddaughter invite a few 'trusted friends' to spend the night at her home in Stenton Fields, Derbyshire, while she visited family in Bristol. 

But she said the night went 'horribly wrong' when an unruly mob travelled hundreds of miles to party at her home.

'They have run riot,' Mrs Roberts said. 'It is like a herd of wild elephants have been upstairs with all of the mud which is on my carpets.

'They have taken a watch and a phone. I have keys missing now. They have smashed my three televisions and been everywhere.

'They have even spread tomato sauce into my carpets. It's just so random and mindless.
