Read Buhari congratulates NiMet on ISO recertification
President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Nigerian Meteorological Agency on the recent recertification of its Aeronautical Meteorological Services for its conformity with the set standards of the International Standard Organisation for Quality Management System.
In a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Saibu Zakari, the President also commended the entire staff at NiMet for their zeal and efforts in keeping the skies safe across the country.
The ISO 9001 certification which was first issued to NiMet by the International Standards Organisation in 2013 is centered on efficient and effective service delivery.
So far only two countries in West Africa can boast of the ISO 9001 certification and they include Nigeria and Gambia.
The Head, Public Relations Unit, NiMet, Eva Azinge, in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, stated that as part of the requirement for recertification, the agency organises periodic stakeholders meeting.
The meeting, according to her, brings industry experts, customers and airline owners to critique and make recommendations on how the agency can better serve its clients and deliver on its mandate of advising government on all aspects of meteorology, climate and weather, as well as providing services to various sectors of the national economy.
Azinge explained that a Quality Management System is a formalised system that documents processes, procedures and responsibilities for achieving quality policies and objectives.
“QMS helps coordinate and direct the activities of organisations in order to meet customers expectations and regulatory requirements with a view to improving its effectiveness and efficiency on a continuous basis,” she said.
